Spanish Community of Practice

The Spanish EU Peers Community, launched in May 2024, has rapidly grown to 51 members representing nearly all regions of Spain in one year. Its core mission is to build a strong national network around Integrated Home Renovation Services (IHRS) to accelerate building renovations. The community creates acollaborative space for knowledge exchange, peer learning, and strengthening the renovation value chain, while also supporting national policy development, such as the National Building Renovation Plan.

Members benefit from regular in-person and online meetings, where they engage with relevant topics like the central figure of the "Agente Rehabilitador", and business models. These sessions include member presentations, interactive discussions, and networking opportunities. Between meetings, HumHub enables ongoing dialogue, resource sharing, and cross-project collaboration. The community has also connected with major initiatives like HORIS, Opengela, AIRE, and had strong visibility at events like Rebuild Rehabilita.

Thanks to member input, the Spanish community has published a policy brief and actively contributes to shaping renovation policies. It fosters valuable partnerships across sectors—public administrations, architects, ESCOs, and IHRS providers—sparking new collaborations. A key highlight was the joint meetingwith the EU Peers consortium in Madrid in 2025, which deepened cross-border exchange and showcased Spain's commitment to a just and effective building renovation ecosystem.

“Since our services are free of charge, the funding from the region and local governments is crucial.” Interview with Didier van Severen, General Manager of Homegrade – the One-Stop Shop of the Brussels-Capital Region
On 24 September , 2025, the Spanish EU Peers Community held its 6th meeting, which was attended by 30 different organizations. This was the first of a cycle of four meetings dedicated to analyzing the ten steps of the renovation process, according to the article Towards large-scale roll out of "integrated home renovation services" in Europe by Millin and Bullier. This session addressed the first three steps, focusing on how to activate the demand: information and marketing, detection and diagnosis, as well as the formulation of recommendations.
Establishing or improving a one-stop shop (OSS) for sustainable home renovation can be quite a complex process - from aligning with EU and national climate goals, to tackling energy poverty, to building trust among homeowners. The EU Peers Mentoring Programme is here to make this journey faster, easier, and more impactful.
