Belgian-wide platform for practitioners launched!

On 27 May, The Belgian Peers, an associated network of EU Peers, was launched during a half-day event in Zaventem, close to Brussels. Hosted by Buildwise, a Belgian innovation center for construction, the event attracted around 50 participants willing to be part of the historic moment. In several workshop rounds topics like innovative financing solutions to promote through One-Stop Shops (OSS), cooperation with the building sector, and effective renovation advice were addressed.

The exchanges brought to light the high level of experience and expertise among the participants, as well as the need to break down the silos in order to learn from each other. The differences between the regions in terms of policy and regulation undermine the added-value of a country-wide OSS approach, helping to disseminate good examples beyond regional borders.

A large group of founders stands behind The Belgian Peers, among them Dubolimburg, European S3,  Buildwise, Embuild Wallonia, GreenWin, CAP Construction, Climact, Financité, Onesto. Nevertheless, it was not them alone who set up the future work programme. All participants shared their needs and expectations for the new platform. Further contributions were provided by Christophe Milin from CINEA, and Jenny-Claire Keilmann from the EU Peers consortium.

The Belgian Peers

To summarise, it can be said that a highly motivated group came together, willing to pursue and shape the future exchange! EU Peers is more than happy to support the Belgian initiative with different features of the Community and wishes good luck to its Belgian colleagues!

The European Union has been at the forefront of crafting policies addressing the built environment's environmental impact. An example of this is the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD) first enacted in 2002. A key instrument in the effort to address climate change. Through the Directive, Europe recognizes the responsibility of buildings for a significant portion of total energy consumption.
Recent studies show that buildings account for about 40% of the EU's CO2 emissions over their life cycle. To meet climate and energy targets, sustainable building renovation is essential. EU Peers contributes to it by fostering collaboration among Integrated Home Renovation (IHRS) providers and supporters.
Two project partners of EU Peers, ENEA and Climate Alliance had the unique opportunity to participate in the last biannual meeting of the Concerted Action on the Energy Efficiency Directive (CA EED) on 21-22 March in Budapest.
