The New EPBD: A New Standard for a More Sustainable Future

It has been 22 years since the first Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD) came into force. Two decades in which climate change has gone from being an abstract concept on panels of experts to something as tangible as sweat in March due to 35ºC, knee-deep water in the living room after torrential rains to pay 10€ for a litre of olive oil produced in an ever-dry countryside. Also, in the last twenty years, climate change and sustainability in general have gained space in the public and political agenda.

Integrated Home Renovation Services (IHRS) offer holistic renovation solutions to accompany homeowners as far as possible throughout their renovation journey. In this sense, an IHRS is also known as a One-Stop-Shop (OSS) for Residential Energy Renovation. See this paper for more insights.

Their mission is a bit more complex than playing a football match and will last longer than 90 minutes. This description of the mission and vision of EU Peers highlights how far EU Peers has come since the first steps at the project’s kick-off meeting in September 2023: Not just in our understanding of the Community of Practice, but also regarding the visualisation of EU Peers. One-Stop Shops (OSS) aim to make home renovation simple and attractive. But how can they themselves draw attention to their offers in a convincing way? The theme of the EU Peers Transnational Community SPRING‘25 meeting is “OSS promotional campaigning”. We collect ideas and cool formats on how to onboard citizens and learn together what is possible (and attractive!). We will have the Energiecentrale Gent and [potentially EOS: RenovAcción] as guests, and also invite participants to share their inspirations. Bring good ones! The Transnational Community meetings are free of charge and open to anyone interested in OSS! You can also suggest topics for the next meeting, which will be voted on by the EU Peers members. Aso, we will share the latest EU Peers developments. Looking forward to meeting you!
