Alliances and partnerships along the renovation value chain

Alliances and partnerships along the renovation value chain

Synthesis:
The fifth Learning Lab of the EU Peers project was hosted by the Green Building Council España (GBCE) and focused on “Alliances and Partnerships for Integrated Home Renovation Services (IHRS)”. The objective of the Learning Lab was to help participants understand how to better align the many actors involved in home renovation, so that homeowners experience a smooth, high-quality journey from first contact to completed works.

Each session combined short expert inputs with interactive workshops, allowing participants to apply concepts to their own contexts and exchange experiences with peers facing similar challenges. Throughout the Learning Lab, the homeowner journey remained the central lens, while clarifying roles, responsibilities, and handovers across the renovation value chain.

Content from the programme:

Session 1 – Understanding the Renovation Value Chain – January 28th

The first session aimed to provide participants with a shared understanding of the European renovation ecosystem: who the key stakeholders are, how they interact, their business models and leverage, and how they influence decision-making. This systemic view was then translated into the homeowner journey to identify friction points and opportunities for improvement. During the interactive segment, participants sketched their local renovation value chains and identified priority handovers requiring better coordination. The session opened with two keynote lectures by GBCE, one about leverage, and the other about partnerships. The session was followed by two case studies: Domus model in Spain, presented by Jordi Ayats from Fundació Europace and Espaço Energia from Portugal, presented by António Batalha from ADENE.

Session 2 – Collaboration Between Stakeholders – January 30th

The final session focused on practical ways to formalise collaboration between stakeholders, exploring contracting approaches, procurement options, service-level agreements, and coordination tools. Participants examined what can be transferred from real-life examples to their own contexts and applied the learning through a dedicated workshop. Three additional case studies were presented, followed by a 40-minute open discussion. The case studies presented were: EOS Renovación model presented by Iván Madrigal, then Mona Zirngibl introduced EcoVision, and finally Franya Rodríguez from Tramiteco explained the benefits of the GBCE QR label.

Conclusions from the Learning Lab:

The Learning Lab showcased a range of alliance and partnership tools already in use and confirmed that aligned collaboration among all the actors in the renovation value chain, rather than isolated actions, is the key lever for scaling high-quality home renovation across Europe.
